Spice Girl leads Pop Goes The Musical 2012

First Published 15 August 2012, Last Updated 15 August 2012

If you’ve ever wondered how your favourite pop stars would fare on one of the West End’s legendary stages, now is your chance to find out as BBC’s Children In Need announces its star-studded line-up for this year’s Pop Goes The Musical.

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke, boy band Blue, soulful Macy Gray and newcomers Stooshe will all take part in this unique charity project that challenges the singers to tread the West End boards and perform at a very special curtain call.

Each celebrity will perform a song from their allocated West End show following that evening’s performance, which will be held in support of the BBC’s famous charity that supports more than 2,000 projects helping disadvantaged young people across the UK.

Halliwell, who will take to the Palace stage on 25 October following a performance of Singin’ In The Rain, described her excitement at being a part of the project, joking: “I have a thing for rain, so I’m very excited to be performing in the West End musical Singin’ In The Rain and it’s all for BBC’s Children In Need. Just imagine, for one night I get to perform in this classic musical!”

Fellow popsters Blue will don the iconic red coats from 1960s set musical Jersey Boys on 11 October, describing it as “an amazing chance”. Member Duncan James is well equipped to take on the challenge following starring roles in West End shows Chicago and Legally Blonde The Musical.

Long-runner Les Misérables will welcome Burke centre stage on 18 September. The Bad Boys singer is already a fan of the show, speaking at the launch saying: “I was absolutely blown away when I saw the show and to join the cast of one of the West End’s most famous musicals is a real honour.

Thriller Live audiences will be treated with two separate performances on 15 November by Grammy Award-winning artist Macy Gray and chart-toppers Stooshe.

Tickets for all performances cost £80 with 50% of each sale going to the charity. Tickets can be purchased exclusively at www.lastminute.com/pudsey and include a top price seat, signed programme, Pudsey bear toy, complementary drink and access to a VIP after show reception hosted by the famous bear himself.

Pop Goes The Musical launched last year with Peter Andre, Stacey Solomon, Dionne Bromfield and Melanie C lending their vocal talents to help the incredible work of the charity.
