Soho theatre reopens following Dean Street fire

Soho theatre is to reopen today with comedy Dreams Of Violence after having to cancel performances on Friday and Saturday due to a nearby fire which saw plumes of smoke cover London’s West End on Friday afternoon.

The theatre was evacuated on Friday as around 100 fire fighters tackled the blaze at a four storey office building on Dean Street. While no-one was injured by the fire, which took seven hours to extinguish, the road remained closed. The company of Dreams Of Violence, who were due to hold their second preview that evening, continued rehearsals in Soho Square.

While Dean Street is still blocked to traffic, Soho theatre is now open and running as normal.

Dreams Of Violence, which is currently in previews at Soho theatre and opens on Thursday, is a new comedy about love, death and responsibility by playwright Stella Feehily. Co-produced by Soho theatre and Out of Joint, it tells of cleaner and political activist Hildy who, when she is not leading a revolt against the bankers, has to deal with her own deeply troubled family.
