Skins star Barbieri debuts in Kin

Published 3 November 2010

Ollie Barbieri, star of hit teen drama Skins, is among seven actors making their professional stage debuts in the new Royal Court production, Kin.

Barbieri, who plays JJ Jones in the E4 series, is joined by newcomers Fern Deacon, Ellen Hill (who share the role of Nina), Maya Gerber, Ciara Southwood (Mimi), Mimi Keene and Madison Lygo (Janey), in the tale of boarding school life.

The debut play from EV Crowe, another graduate of the productive Royal Court Young Writers’ Programme, is set in a 1990s boarding school and presents an intricate and anarchic view of what might go on when 10-year-olds are away from home.

Experience is brought to the youthful cast by the easily recognisable actress Annette Badland, who has worked extensively on stages across the country and has film and television credits including Doctor Who, Bad Girls, Cutting It, The Naked Civil Servant, Little Voice and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Kevin McMonagle, who completes the cast, has previously appeared at the Royal Court in Ladybird, Thyestes and Ambulance. His other London credits include Arturo Ui, Black Snow (both National Theatre), The Family Reunion (Donmar Warehouse), Wishbones and Heartthrob (both Bush theatre).

Kin opens in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs later this month, following current production Red Bud, Brett Neveu’s tale of middle-aged friends trying to ignore the creep of time by meeting for their traditional trip to a motorcross championship.
