Simon Callow will be acting Juvenal at the St James Theatre later this summer when he transfers Juvenalia to the Victoria venue direct from the Edinburgh Festival.

The one-man show, which runs from 26 to 30 August, could be described as historic stand-up comedy. It was written by the Roman Juvenal, who was born around AD 55 and last performed the piece that attacks the decadence of Rome and lambasts almost everyone in AD 100.

The Callow-performed production has been adapted for the stage by Richard Quick.

Juvenalia is the latest show to find Four Weddings And A Funeral star Callow alone on the stage, following his success with productions including A Christmas Carol, Being Shakespeare and The Mystery Of Charles Dickens.

The show runs at the St James Theatre following the run of current hit comedy Invincible, which plays until 9 August, and prior to new play Breeders, the first production in the One Stage season that also features productions of Uncle Vanya and Accolade.
