Royal Opera House offers families Nutcracker tickets from £5

First Published 28 October 2011, Last Updated 28 October 2011

The Royal Opera House is teaming up with The Sun to offer families the chance to see The Nutcracker from only £5 per person this December.

Readers of the newspaper will be invited to apply for the special performance of the Royal Ballet’s magical production with tickets on offer priced from £5 to £19.50. A ballot will then take place to determine which readers have been successful.

The event aims to offer people who haven’t previously had the opportunity to attend a performance at the Royal Opera the chance to not only take the whole family to watch a ballet, but also to enjoy activities for all ages at the venue throughout the day.

Entitled the Paul Hamlyn Christmas Treat, the offer has been made possible by The Hamlyn Trust in memory of the late publisher and philanthropist Paul Hamlyn. Last year hundreds of families saw Cinderella at the lauded Covent Garden venue through the same scheme.

Tony Hall, Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House, said: “The excitement we feel in the building at a Paul Hamlyn performance is always special! To see the auditorium filled with new audiences that are happy and enjoying the very best in ballet is why we do this. The Nutcracker is a fantastic first ballet for all ages – a well known story, beautiful music and the perfect start to Christmas!”

Full details of how to register for tickets and the date of the performance will be announced in The Sun in late November.
