Published 18 January 2017

The Royal Court has announced casting news for its upcoming Simon McBurney-directed play The Kid Stays In The Picture, based on the life of legendary Hollywood producer Robert Evans.

The cast will consist of Thomas Arnold (most recently seen in The Lorax at The Old Vic), Heather Burns (on-screen in Manchester By The Sea), Max Casella (The Lion King on Broadway), Clint Dyer (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Danny Huston (Wrath Of The Titans), Ajay Naidu (Complicite’s Measure For Measure) and Madeleine Potter (4:48 Psychosis).

Based on the life of Robert Evans adapted from his memoir, the show runs in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from Tuesday 7 March 2017 – Saturday 8 April 2017, with a press night on Wednesday 15 March 2017.

In the 1960s and 70s, Robert Evans became one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood. He saved Paramount Pictures from collapse and produced films including The Godfather and Chinatown. By the 1980s he was broke, with his personal and professional life spiralling at epic proportions. In 1994 he published his award-winning autobiography, chronicling it all.

Director Simon McBurney explores the rise and fall of the legendary film producer against the backdrop of a changing America through the second half of the 20th Century.

The show is adapted by Simon McBurney and James Yeatman, and co-directed by James Yeatman, with set design by Anna Fleischle, costume design by Christina Cunningham, video design by Simon Wainwright, lighting design by Paul Anderson and sound design by Pete Malkin.

The Kid Stays In The Picture is co-produced with Patrick Milling Smith, Barbara Broccoli, Michael G Wilson, Brian Carmody and Royal Court Theatre Productions in association with Complicite.

The Kid Stays In The Picture plays from 7 March; you can book your tickets through the venue’s website.
