Ron Cook will star alongside the previously announced Gina McKee and Stephen Dillane in the Donmar Warehouse’s forthcoming production of Brian Friel’s Faith Healer.
The trio will be directed by Olivier Award winner Lyndsey Turner in the powerful drama at the intimate Covent Garden theatrical powerhouse from 23 June to 20 August.
London stage regular Cook, who returns to the Donmar following his appearances in Trelawny Of The Wells, Richard II and King Lear, will take on the role of Teddy, the manager of the titular faith healer Frank Hardy (Dillane).
Throughout the remote and forgotten corners of the British Isles, Frank offers the promise of redemption to the sick and the suffering. But his is an unreliable gift, a dangerous calling which brings him into conflict with both Teddy and his wife Grace (McKee). Their accounts of their lives together and their memories of the past collide as they attempt to understand the power which lies at the heart of Frank’s ministry.
While Cook is a regular at the Donmar Warheouse, he also boasts numerous credits away from the venue, having most recently starred in Jamie Lloyd’s star-studded revival of The Homecoming. Like his forthcoming co-stars, Game Of Thrones’ Dillane and television regular McKee, he is familiar face from screen with credits including Mr Selfridge, The Mystery Of Edwin Drood and Vera.
Faith Healer will mark a hat-trick of productions of the late legendary playwright Friel for director Turner following her acclaimed takes on Friel’s Philadelphia, Here I Come! and Fathers And Sons.
The production plays as part of an eclectic season for the venue with current comedy Welcome Home, Captain Fox! set to be followed by the world premiere of Nick Payne’s Elegy.
