Quartet extends London stay

First Published 4 April 2011, Last Updated 4 April 2011

Million Dollar Quartet, the Broadway import which opened at London’s Noël Coward theatre in February, has extended its booking period a further six months, to 28 April 2012.

The musical is set in Memphis in 1956 and tells the true story of when four greats of rock ‘n’ roll – Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash – played together in a jam session set up by Sun Records boss Sam Phillips.

The show features a mix of tunes made famous by the quartet, including Perkins’s Blue Suede Shoes – subsequently covered by Presley – Cash’s I Walk The Line, Lewis’s Great Balls Of Fire and Presley’s Hound Dog.

The cast is led by Ben Goddard, Derek Hagen, Michael Malarkey and Oliver Seymour-Marsh as the famous foursome, along with Bill Ward as Phillips and Francesca Jackson as Presley’s fictional girlfriend Dyanne.

Million Dollar Quartet’s UK production follows the show’s premiere on Broadway in March 2010, which resulted in three Tony Award nominations including Best Musical.
