If you haven’t been to see the award-winning musical Caroline, Or Change yet, you’ll want to after you’ve seen these incredible photos from the show.

Currently showing at the Playhouse Theatre, Caroline, Or Change tells the story of Caroline, an overworked and underpaid maid from Louisiana, who works in the sweltering basement of the Gellman household. Take a look at photographer Helen Maybanks’ first snaps of the show in the West End below…

Follow her story as she strikes up a friendship with eight-year-old Noah Gellman, who sneaks downstairs to see her whenever he can, where the basement becomes a magical place of singing and dancing, and where even the washing machine is not what it appears.

Set in 1963, a huge period of upheaval and social change, this show incorporates an unforgettable score comprising of soul, blues, classical and traditional Jewish folk music and weaves it into this gripping story.

Written by Tony Kushner, author of Angels in America, with music by Tony Award-winning Fun Home composer, Jeanine Tesori, the show also has an incredible, award-winning cast behind it. Olivier Award-winning actress Sharon D. Clarke plays Caroline Thibodeaux, and is joined by Naana Agyei-Ampadu, Keisha Amponsa Banson, Alastair Brookshaw, Me’sha Bryan, Angela Caesar, Dujonna Gift-Simms, Sue Kelvin, Teddy Kempner, Ako Mitchell, Abiona Omonua, Vincent Pirillo, Tanisha Spring and Lauren Ward with Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong, Zalika Henry, Laura Medforth, Timothy Quinlan and Teddy Wills.

Winner of the 2007 Olivier Award for Best New Musical, the show is already proving to be popular, with the run recently extended to 6 April 2019 due to popular demand.
