Private Peaceful plays Haymarket season

Audiences have the chance to see another of War Horse author Michael Morpurgo’s stories on stage, with First World War drama Private Peaceful set to play a short season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in September.

Private Peaceful will play from 18 to 29 September with casting yet to be announced. One Man, Two Guvnors, which is currently playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, will return to the venue from 1 October following the two week break.

Directed and adapted for the stage by Simon Reade, Morpurgo’s story relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. During the night he looks back at his short but joyful past growing up in rural Devon.

The heart-wrenching family production looks at Tommo’s exciting first days at school, the accident in the forest that killed his father and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line.

The one-man stage show was last seen in London at the Trafalgar Studios following its 2004 premiere at Bristol Old Vic and, like Morpurgo’s hugely successful story War Horse which was made into a successful film last year, Private Peaceful will soon be seen on the big screen with a film adaptation due for release this autumn.
