Powell joins Rain crowd

Former Holby City and Jesus Of Nazareth star Robert Powell will be dancing in the drizzle this October when he joins the West End cast of Singin’ In The Rain.

The film and TV star, who also appeared opposite Jasper Carrott in comedy The Detectives, joins the precipitous production from 1 October, starring as studio boss RF Simpson opposite Adam Cooper, Daniel Crossley and Olivier Award-nominees Scarlett Strallen and Katherine Kingsley.

Speaking about the project, Powell said: “I’m delighted to be back in the West End and joining this classic musical. On the night I went to see it, from the minute the curtain went up I knew it was a show for me and I’m thrilled to be working with such a talented company. I’ve also dealt with a few studio bosses in my time so inspiration for the part of RF Simpson should come pretty easily! I can’t wait to get started.”

The production, which is based on the classic MGM film, tells the story of silent movie star Don Lockwood (Cooper), a man with everything he could want, including a ‘romance’ with his co-star Lina Lamont (Kingsley). But Hollywood is about to change and now they want actors who can talk and sing and dance.

The show, which opened at London’s Palace theatre earlier this year, has also released more tickets, extended its booking period, come rain or shine, until 1 September 2013.
