Pop star Pixie Lott will make her West End play debut in a new adaptation of much-loved tale Breakfast At Tiffany’s coming to London in summer 2016.
The Mama Do singer will become one of fiction’s most iconic creations, Holly Golightly, in the new adaptation that will open at Leicester’s Curve Theatre before touring the UK and arriving at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 30 June 2016.
Speaking about the role, the Strictly Come Dancing quarter finalist said: “I am so excited to play Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in my first West End play. I absolutely love Holly’s style and free spirit; she has always been an icon to me and I can’t wait to bring my own personality to the role. Alongside music, I’ve always wanted to be in a play, and getting the opportunity to be in one of my all-time favourites and play this fabulous character is a dream come true.”
Truman Capote’s tale, made famous in the 1961 Audrey Hepburn film, is set in 1943 New York where young writer Fred meets the vivacious good-time girl Holly. But while Fred barely has a few nickels to rub together, most of the charming Holly’s suitors are swimming in cash. But as Holly begins to fall for the cash-light wordsmith, her past comes calling.
This new production of Breakfast At Tiffany’s will be adapted by Three Days Of Rain writer Richard Greenberg, directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster and feature music from the age in which it is set and new music by One Man, Two Guvnors’ Grant Olding.
Commenting on his adaptation, Greenberg said: “The goal of this version is to return to the original setting of the novella, which is the New York of the Second World War, as well as to resume its tone – still stylish and romantic, yes, but rougher-edged and more candid than people generally remember. “
This will be the second version of Breakfast At Tiffany’s to play at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in recent years, following the Anna Friel-led production in 2009. The historic venue currently plays host to the transfer of Broadway hit The Elephant Man starring Bradley Cooper, which runs until 8 August.
