First Published 5 September 2016, Last Updated 27 April 2020

What do you get when you combine beautiful photography, intricate design and one of the West End’s most spectacular shows? Well, these incredible pictures of scenes from Disney’s The Lion King, for one thing.

Studying the show extensively and selecting key moments to motivate the images, photographer Matt Crockett for Dewynters carefully collaborated with the creative team behind The Lion King to celebrate director Julie Taymor’s vision for the production, with the final group of six images achieved by shooting various elements individually and then combining them in post-production.

Shot on stage at the Lyceum Theatre, home to Disney’s award-winning musical phenomenon, photographer Matt aimed to capture the beauty, scale and exuberant nature of Julie’s internationally-renowned stage adaptation of the beloved animated film, now in its 17th triumphant year in the West End.

And from the incredible evidence on display, you can’t help but admire how Matt has done so. Check out the spectacular shots below, and then book your tickets for the show through us here.
