The angels of music within The Phantom Of The Opera‘s West End cast soared to an amazing double win at last night’s West End Eurovision 2018 charity event.
The charity production, which sees the casts of some of London’s hottest musicals perform original Eurovision Song Contest tunes to win text votes from the audience, saw the Phantom cast claim the Champions Trophy for their rendition of Conchita Wurst’s Rise Like A Phoenix. Featuring some hilarious characters and a stunning quick dress transformation, they scooped 106 votes, beating off Dreamgirls (in 2nd place with 70 votes) and Disney’s Aladdin (in 3rd with 60).
The event also saw The Phantom Of The Opera awarded the Judges Award – Best Creative by the judging panel, which comprised showbiz legend Arlene Phillips, John Partridge and stand up star Tom Allen. The third trophy of the night, the Best Ident, voted for by public text vote, was won by Hamilton.
Also performing in the show were the London casts of 42nd Street, Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia! and Young Frankenstein.
Legendary charity production West End Eurovision returned to the Shaftesbury Theatre this year, having first been staged in 2008. The event has raised thousands to support the Make A Difference Trust, which works with its partners to support HIV and AIDS projects both in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa building awareness and providing care support and education.
The evening also saw performances from this year’s UK entry, SuRie, and musical theatre leading actress Lucie Jones, who represented the UK in 2017.
