Lloyd Owen and June Watson will join the previously announced Imelda Staunton in Jonathan Kent’s forthcoming production of Good People, which receives its UK premiere from 27 February at the Hampstead Theatre.

Owen, who originated the role of Frank Farmer in current West End hit The Bodyguard, returns to the Swiss Cottage venue following his performance in 2011’s Loyalty.

His co-star Watson, who was most recently in Mrs Lowry And Son at the Trafalgar Studios, returns to the London stage following appearances in Before The Party at the Almeida and the Daniel Radcliffe-led production of The Cripple Of Inishmaan, in which she is due to revive her role on Broadway less than a week after Good People comes to the end of its run on 5 April.

They are joined in the production by Matthew Barker (The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time), Angel Coulby, whose theatre credits include 2007’s Statement Of Regret at the National Theatre, and Lorraine Ashbourne, who returns to the London stage following performances in Aunt Dan & Lemon at the Royal Court and Three Sisters at the National Theatre.

Directed by Kent, who worked with Staunton on Olivier Award-winning hit musical Sweeney Todd, David Lindsay-Abaire’s drama tells the story of a sharp-tongued single-mother Margie (Staunton), who, after losing another job, will do anything she can to pay the bills, including cornering an old boyfriend who has made good in town.

Good People, which premiered on Broadway in 2011 where it won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play of the Year, will open following Gina Gionfriddo’s Rapture, Blister, Burn, starring Emelia Fox, which ends its run on 22 February.
