Old Vic gets theatregoers Branded

The Old Vic has created an exciting opportunity for amateurs to grace the stage, both from behind the scenes and in the spotlight. Open auditions are being held for new production Branded which will be performed over three nights in May at the acclaimed theatre. Calling for talented performers to come and show off their skills, the Old Vic want anyone over the age of 16 from actors to acrobats, MCs to street runners, to come to the auditions for the chance to be involved.

The auditions will be held this Sunday 17 February at 10:00 at the Old Vic and will result in the development of a 100-strong amateur crew of all ages to stage the production. The group will work under the direction of a professional crew including director Matt Wilde and associate director and choreographer Aletta Collins.

Wilde is a former Associate Director of the National Theatre Studio and has also worked on productions at the Almeida and Royal Court. Collins has directed productions for Opera North and the Savoy amongst others, and has choreographed shows such as His Dark Materials for the National.

Written by Simon Bent, Branded was specially commissioned as part of the theatre’s Go For Green project. The story begins with the launch of a shoe that sends the world into frenzy, and questions how far people will go to get their hands on the most fashionable object of the moment. Promising to travel the world “virtually”, the production will use sophisticated stage equipment to produce an exciting multi-media piece, incorporating drama, film, music, visuals, dance and physical theatre to explore the effects of the world’s consumerism.

As well as Branded, the Old Vic’s Go For Green project is opening its doors to the local community with themed workshops, school debates and educational activities to challenge London’s outlook on our economic and environmental responsibilities.

Branded will run at the Old Vic between Thursday 1 May and Saturday 3 May.
