There is a chance to see some of the future stars of the West End in performance this summer as the National Youth Music Theatre brings its latest show, Little Me, to the Bloomsbury theatre from 28-30 August.
Cy Coleman’s light-hearted comic musical Little Me premiered on Broadway in 1962 and was last seen in the West End in 1984. The story follows the rise and fall in the fortunes of Belle Schlumpfert, the rags-to-riches heroine who has monstrous bad luck. The score includes the songs Real Live Girl, I’ve Got Your Number and Deep Down Inside. This production is directed by Caroline Leslie, Artistic Associate at the NYMT and former Director of Youth Theatre at Salisbury Playhouse.
The National Youth Music Theatre was founded in 1976 with the aim of producing music theatre productions and workshops with young people of all backgrounds as participants. Since its creation the NYMT has produced numerous shows – last year’s production was Fiddler On The Roof, staged at the Bridewell. Among the NYMT’s alumni are many current stars of London theatre, including Tom Hollander (Landscape With Weapon), Connie Fisher (The Sound Of Music), Kerry Ellis (Wicked), Laura Michelle Kelly (The Lord Of The Rings), Amy Nuttall (Boeing Boeing) and Sheridan Smith (Little Shop Of Horrors).
