New Frantic Assembly show for Lyric

Published 14 January 2016

Acclaimed theatre company Frantic Assembly’s latest show, Things I Know To Be True, will stage its UK premiere at the Lyric Hammersmith this autumn.

The international co-production with South Australia’s State Theatre Company will have its world premiere in Adelaide this May before heading to the UK for a run at the Hammersmith venue from 10 September to 1 October and a subsequent UK tour.

Written by the acclaimed Australian playwright Andrew Bovell, Frantic Assembly will employ their unique physical style to bring to life a complex and touching story of one family and marriage through the eyes of four grown up siblings.

Parents Bob and Fran have worked their fingers to the bone and with their four children grown and ready to fly the nest it might be time to relax and smell the roses. But the changing seasons bring home some shattering truths.

Described as “both poetic and brutally frank”,  Things I Know To Be True will be co-directed by State Theatre Company and Frantic Assembly’s Artistic Directors Geordie Brookman and Scott Graham, the latter of whom worked to create the National Theatre’s hugely innovative movement in The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.

Talking about the upcoming collaboration, Graham commented: “The prospect of what we and this fantastic creative team can make together is absolutely thrilling.”

Bovell offered more information on the drama, saying: “Things I Know To Be True is about familial love, that which can hold you in the safest and strongest place possible and suffocate you at the same time. It is a powerful model, the nuclear family and it takes courage to reject it. The collaboration with Frantic Assembly allows this story to reach across continents to the UK and to remind each other just how similar we are.”

Things I Know To Be True will see Frantic Assembly’s first return to the Lyric Hammersmith following the revival of its hugely successful interpretation of Othello. Its latest production promises to bring the same physicality to the stage as seen in the company’s numerous other hits including Lovesong, The Believers and Beautiful Burnout.

Casting is yet to be announced.
