The National Theatre‘s powerhouse play The Lehman Trilogy, directed by Sam Mendes and currently enjoying an acclaimed run on the South Bank, will transfer to the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre next year.

Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Ben Miles will reprise their roles as the titular trio of brothers, who, in 1844, set out to reshape the financial world, forming the famous firm Lehman Brothers.

The Lehman Trilogy will transfer to the West End from 11 May 2019, playing a limited 12-week season. Told in three parts across a single evening, the play will first have a limited season in New York at the Park Avenue Armory.

The Lehman Trilogy is written by Stefano Massini and adapted by Ben Power, and tells the story of a family and company that changed the world.

Weaving through nearly two centuries of the Lehman lineage, the play begins in New York where one man dreams of a new life in a new world – and so commences an American epic. 163 years later, Lehman Brothers would collapse into bankruptcy, triggering the largest financial crisis in history.

Of the announcement, Mendes said: “The Lehman Trilogy was developed over three years without the constraint of a schedule, or even a destination – I was allowed time to find its form, and to build a wonderful team with which to make it. One of the chief joys has been to work across borders with two great writers, and to invite three of the finest actors of their generation to work with us.

“We are indebted to the National Theatre and the Park Avenue Armory for their unstinting support throughout, and I couldn’t be more excited to show it to New York audiences and to be extending our London life in the West End.”

Tickets for the transfer will go on sale in early November.

The run at the Piccadilly Theatre follows that of another popular National Theatre show – The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time – which runs from 29 November 2018 to 27 April 2019.
