It was one of the theatrical highlights of 2018: the sumptuous revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies at the National Theatre, which won the Olivier Award for Magic Radio Best Musical Revival. What a cast assembled for it, too, including Imelda Staunton, Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee, Philip Quast and Peter Forbes. And now the National have announced that the much-anticipated ‘Follies – 2018 National Theatre Cast Recording’ has been released via digital download and streaming platforms.

The cast recording, featuring the original cast and orchestra behind the production, conducted by Nigel Lilley and mixed by SMP Studios, is available across digital download and streaming accounts now.

With songs including Losing My Mind, Broadway Baby and Losing My Mind, Follies tells the story of the former star performers of Weismann’s Follies, who reunite on the eve of the theatre’s destruction. Its wistful stories of regret and unrequited love scored huge acclaim at the South Bank venue last year.

The production will return to the National’s Olivier Theatre from 12 February, with a cast including Bennett, Dee, Forbes, Alexander Hanson and Joanna Riding.

Director Dominic Cooke said: “The original company gave detailed, powerful performances and I’m delighted that we managed to record them for listeners to appreciate Stephen Sondheim’s peerless score, just as I’m working with an equally brilliant cast on the Olivier revival opening next month.”
