Lyric Hammersmith announces spring family programme

Published 14 December 2011

The Lyric Hammersmith has announced a spring season packed with children’s productions including a new version of Goldilocks from Little Angel Theatre and an Olympic themed show from Pied Piper Theatre.

Kicking off the 2012 spring season is Kid Carpet And The Noisy Animals, a unique concert mixing comedy, animation and live music for children aged 3 to 8, and theatre company Lyngo return with two interactive shows What A Wonderful World and Circus Minimus.

New versions of traditional favourites are also on offer with Krazy Kat presenting a full sign-language interpreted production of the The Pied Piper and Little Angel Theatre following up its acclaimed show A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings with a production of Goldilocks for 3 to 6 year olds.

Puppeteer Shone Reppe will bring her acclaimed version of Cinderella to the venue. The award-winning show, which has enjoyed successful runs on Broadway and at the Sydney Opera House, promises secret hatches, hidden drawers and a handbag full of magic.

For the first time ever in its children’s programme, the Lyric Hammersmith has scheduled work suitable for audiences over the age of five, with Touched Theatre’s Me And The Sea and Pied Piper Theatre’s Great Gran’s Great Games, which tells of one woman’s quest for gold at the 1948 Olympic Games, playing as part of the spring season.

Another first, the venue has announced it will welcome school and nursery groups to regular Friday performances to introduce theatre to new young audiences. The programme will begin with Hiccup Theatre’s The Owl & The Pussycat.

For more hands-on audience members, shows on Saturdays will be followed by a Messy Play workshop where children can create a memento of the show to take home with them. Once a month the fun will be extended for Family Sundays when all-day workshop activities will be on offer.
