Lyndhust joins Fiennes in Tempest

First Published 13 July 2011, Last Updated 13 July 2011

Nicholas Lyndhurst is to join Ralph Fiennes in Trevor Nunn’s production of The Tempest at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 27 August.

Lyndhurst, who plays Trinculo, is best known for his extensive television credits, most famously playing Rodney Trotter in sitcom Only Fools And Horses. His work also includes classic comedy series Butterflies, Goodnight Sweetheart, After You’ve Gone and, most recently, Rock And Chips. On stage he has been seen in Straight And Narrow, The Foreigner and The Dresser in the West End.

Also joining the cast – which already includes Giles Terera, Julian Wadham, Clive Wood and Elisabeth Hopper – is Chris Andrew Mellon, who takes on the role of Sebastian. Mellon is currently starring as The Player in Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, Nunn’s second production as Artistic Director of the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Mellon stepped into the breech following the departure of original cast member Tim Curry, who left the show due to illness.

The Tempest will be Nunn’s third and final production in his season at the venue, which started with Flare Path.
