The Wintershall Nativity, an annual family friendly production about the birth of Jesus that features real life sheep and donkeys, will play two performances in London next month.

Taking place at 16:30 and 19:00 on 19 December at the World piazza outside the BBC Broadcasting House before heading to All Souls Church, the promenade performances, which feature a 70-strong cast including musicians, choristers and those ever crowd-pleasing farmyard animals, mark the first time that the Surrey Hills-based production has ever played away from its traditional home in the English countryside.

Directed by Ashley Herman, the show charts Mary and Joseph’s well-known journey to Bethlehem, from the appearance of the Angel Gabriel to the wise men’s arrival at the new born baby’s bedside, incorporating the threat of King Herod and the need for a miracle to save the family from approaching soldiers.

Led by James Burke-Dunsmore as the Archangel Michael, the cast is comprised of volunteer actors from London and the South East, all with the joint aim of reminding people about the real meaning of Christmas.

The Wintershall Nativity, which has been performed in front of thousands of people every year in Surrey for more than two decades, comes from the same company that presents the annual performance of The Passion Of Jesus in Trafalgar Square.
