Lend Me A Tenor The Musical is to end its West End run at the Gielgud theatre on 6 August due to disappointing ticket sales. It had been booking to 19 November.
Peter Sham and Brad Carroll’s musical, based on the play by Ken Ludwig and starring Matthew Kelly and Joanna Riding, opened on 15 June after previewing from 2 June.
Martin Platt and David Elliott, producers of the show, said in a statement: “Despite mostly wonderful notices from the press, great feedback from our audiences and nightly standing ovations, this has not translated into growing sales and we feel it is in everyone’s best interests to close the production.”
Lend Me A Tenor The Musical is set in Ohio in 1934 where the failing Grand Opera Company is about to be saved by the arrival of the world’s greatest tenor, Tito Merelli. But when he is unexpectedly incapacitated, it falls to the director’s meek assistant to find a replacement.
The next production scheduled for the Gielgud theatre is The Ladykillers, which is due to open on 7 December after previews from 26 November.
