Laura Cubitt, David Emmings, Julia Innocenti, Avye Leventis and Tim Lewis will reprise their roles in the National Theatre’s family production of The Elephantom when it transfers to the New London Theatre later this month.

The tale of a little girl who is unexpectedly visited by the giant spectre of a ghost elephant will play alongside fellow National Theatre family hit War Horse at the venue from 30 June to 6 September.

The quintet of original cast members will be joined in the show by Charlotte Dubery and Susan Harrison, who are both newcomers to the pachyderm-packed production.

Suitable for children aged three and older, The Elephantom charts the girl’s initial elation at having a new larger than life friend to the realisation that the ghostly creature of its title are too big and cause too much trouble when let loose indoors.

Adapted by Ben Power from Ross Collins’ popular picture book, the family production opened at the National Theatre’s Temporary Theatre in December 2013. In his four-star review, The Telegraph’s Dominic Cavendish said that the tale was so enjoyable that “the majority of tots will only be disappointed that they can’t have an Elephantom to take home with them”.

The show, which will play daytime performances at the New London Theatre, reunites much of the team behind the venue’s longstanding hit including puppetry designer Toby Olié and War Horse director Marianne Elliott, who brings her skills to the Elephantom team as consultant director.
