The 10th anniversary Kids Week kicks off on Friday and, to celebrate, the team is holding a special two-day launch event beginning 16 August. Held in Covent Garden, the event will feature performances from some of the West End’s biggest shows, interactive activities around the piazza and the Kids Week Talent Contest to find London’s best young theatrical talent.

During this free two-day event, the casts of some of Theatreland’s top current shows have donated their time to entertain you on the main stage of Kids Week Covent Garden, including Buddy, Grease, Billy Elliot, Little Shop Of Horrors, Chicago, Wicked, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Sound Of Music, Mary Poppins, Footloose, The Lord Of The Rings, Disney’s The Lion King, Monty Python’s Spamalot and Mamma Mia!, plus performances from children’s shows The Gruffalo’s Child and Angelina’s Star Performance.

On Thursday 16 August, Brenda Edwards (X Factor finalist and star of Chicago and Carmen Jones) will be on hand to help judge the Kids Week Talent Contest in which aspiring young theatre talents (who have already been selected from applications) aged up to 16 are given their three minutes in the spotlight to demonstrate their abilities in front of a panel of industry experts.

Meanwhile, visitors to the event can get involved in the interactive activities held in pavilions around the piazza – check out the Drama Pavilion hosted by the Old Vic, sing-along and dance with West End professionals or try on a costume from Les Misérables, and for the little ones, Oily Cart hosts the Under 5s Pavilion.

Kids Week Covent Garden takes place on from 12:00-16:00 on 16 August and 12:00-17:00 on 17 August. For more information visit www.kidsweek.co.uk/launchevent
