Our annual family promotion Kids Week has joined forces with our TKTS ticket booth in Leicester Square to present a fun-filled theatrical hunt this fortnight as part of the Family Arts Festival.
Kicking off today, the newly launched family friendly festival, which sees 800 arts organisations host more than 1,600 events nationwide including many in the capital, is packed full of theatrical activities to keep individuals of all ages entertained during the half-term period from 18 October to 3 November.
If you know which long-running murder mystery was penned by Agatha Christie and which ABBAtastic musical is set on a Greek island, your family could be in with the chance of winning £250 of Theatre Tokens with Kids Week and TKTS’ Theatreland Hunt, which takes you around the sights of London’s theatre district in search of the answers to their cannily created clues.
Families wanting to take part in the challenge can pick up a clue sheet from today, along with one of our handy Official London Theatre Guides, from our discount ticket booth in the clock tower building in Leicester Square to get them started on their fun-filled adventure before returning it – hopefully successfully completed – to the friendly TKTS staff to be in with a chance of winning the prize.
Other exciting events taking place in the capital include Sing West End!, a 90 minute sing-a-long for all the family, Shakespeare’s Globe’s Muse Of Fire, a story-based treasure hunt around the iconic venue, numerous shows at the Unicorn theatre, including Halloween treat Nosferatu, and The Curious Case Of Josephine Bean at the Barbican theatre.
Musical theatre icon Andrew Lloyd Webber, one of the many famous faces getting behind the festival, spoke about the importance of getting families involved in the arts, saying: “The Family Arts Festival is a wonderful new initiative to encourage more families to sample the huge variety of arts activities on offer all over the UK. Going to the theatre, concert hall or gallery is a really rewarding way to spend time together as a family.”
Fellow supporter and acclaimed actress Zoë Wanamaker agreed with his sentiment, saying: “I am delighted to be supporting the Family Arts Festival, it has such a wonderful range of ways for families to see and do exciting things together. Coming from a family where both my parents were actors, I know what fun and enrichment it brought to me when growing up, and now that I have a family of my own, I realise just how important it is to spend time doing things with all the family together.”
