In rehearsals: Measure For Measure

First Published 18 September 2015, Last Updated 18 September 2015

We all know that Measure For Measure has its fair share of whorehouses, nunneries, betrothals and beheadings, but rarely has Shakespeare’s dark comedy featured a video camera.

Until now, apparently, as Edward II and The Changeling director Joe Hill-Gibbins prepares to take the helm of a new production at the Young Vic.

After photographer Keith Pattison went to see what the cast were getting up to in the Copperfield Rehearsal Room, we’re intrigued to know what the director has in store with his take on the Vienna-set tale about a duke’s deputy and his tyrannical reign over the city.

We predict an innovative staging, quite possibly featuring some projections, when the Romola Garai-led production begins its run on 1 October. We also expect a fair amount of injustice and hypocrisy, obviously.

Garai is joined in Measure For Measure by a cast that includes Tom Edden, Paul Ready and Zubin Varla. Take a look at them in action in the gallery above.
