In rehearsal: The Second Mrs Tanqueray

First Published 21 September 2012, Last Updated 20 August 2013

It has been more than four years since Olivier Award-winner Laura Michelle Kelly has appeared on the London stage. As the Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia! and The Lord Of The Rings star prepares to return in the Rose Theatre Kingston’s production of The Second Mrs Tanqueray, photographer Simon Annand snuck into rehearsals to see how preparations for the production, which also stars Venice Film Festival Best Actor winner James Wilby, Joseph Alessi, Rona Morison and Sally Tatum, are going.

Arthur W Pinero’s play, written in 1893 and one of the most popular of pieces of its time, follows Aubrey Tanqueray (Wilby), who marries for the second time knowing that his new wife (Kelly) is a woman ‘with a past’. Unfortunately he has no idea how that past will catch up with him.
