In rehearsal: The Oliviers In Concert

Published 22 January 2016

With The Oliviers In Concert, the musical celebration of 40 years of London’s most prestigious theatre prizes, just days away, we were invited into rehearsals with our camera to get in the mood.

Believe me when I say listening to Scarlett Strallen, Petra Siniawski and Clive Rowe rehearse might well be the most glorious way to spend an hour or so of a Friday afternoon.

Being allowed to observe such acclaimed performers playing with a song under the expert guidance of none other than Maria Friedman is a treat of the highest order, whether it be Strallen performing… ah, I can’t say exactly what she is performing yet. Nor can I confirm what Mr Rowe will be raising the roof with. But the roof will raise, I guarantee you that.

The pair of musical theatre powerhouses will appear alongside Michael Ball, Elaine Paige, Maria Friedman, Daniel Evans, Katie Brayben, John Dagleish, the Jersey Boys, the Matildas, the Guildford School of Acting Choir and the BBC Concert Orchestra in the one off concert that promises to be packed with an incredible selection of songs from Olivier Award-winning shows.

Tickets have almost sold out, but you can listen to the concert live on BBC Radio 3 from 19:30 on Monday 25 January.
