In rehearsal: The Cripple Of Inishmaan

As Daniel Radcliffe takes another step away from Harry Potter, we look into the Cripple Of Inishmaan rehearsal room.

He’s a canny one is Daniel Radcliffe. For years immediately recognisable as boy wizard Harry Potter, he has astutely chosen projects away from the multimillion pound behemoth – Equus, The Woman In Black, A Young Doctor’s Notebook – to put as much distance between him and the angsty teenage wizard as possible.

His latest project sees him playing the title role in Martin McDonagh’s revered dark comedy The Cripple Of Inishmaan, a young man who sees the Hollywood film being made on a neighbouring island as a way to escape from the tedium of his daily life.

The production, directed by Michael Grandage, begins previews next week, but before the predominantly Irish cast take to the stage of the Noël Coward theatre, photographer Marc Brenner was allowed into the rehearsal studio at the Jerwood Space.
