In rehearsal: Memphis

Published 11 September 2014

If ever there was a sign of a cast working hard for the opening of a West End show it would be the copious amounts of coffee cups, Red Bull cans and vitamin drinks strewn across the rehearsal room. That, and the impressive leaps, breathtaking back flips and sculpted abs, of course.

Yes, rehearsals have begun for the London premiere of Memphis, the Tony Award-winning hit about a radio DJ who wants to change the world, which will arrive at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 9 October.

Recording artist and The Bodyguard star Beverley Knight leads the cast alongside The Commitments’ Killian Donnelly in the tale of fame and forbidden love inspired by real-life Memphis disc jockey Dewey Phillips.

From the moves to the music, Helen Maybanks’ rehearsal shots give us an insight into how preparations for the production are coming along. Take a look at the gallery above to see for yourselves.
