In pictures: Urinetown The Musical

Published 4 March 2014

Urinetown The Musical is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly anticipated openings of 2014. So when we received these incredible production shots, we just had to share them with you.

Over the past six weeks Jenna Russell has given remarkably little away about the production while entertaining us with her diary of the rehearsal period. We know they’ve been working on Brooklyn accents and that her make-up renders her role as Penelope Pennywise not a ‘pulling part’.

But with these remarkable shots by Johan Persson we can get a real feel for the stunning Gothic griminess of the Jamie Lloyd-directed production.

The London premiere of the Tony Award-winning show brings the story of a city decimated by drought to the capital. With so little water, every flush is precious, personal toilets are unheard of and public conveniences are under the tight control of one evil man. Get caught short and you risk being sent to Urinetown, from whence no-one ever returns. The city needs a revolution… and every revolution needs a hero.

The production, which also stars Richard Fleeshman, Marc Elliot, Cory English and Jonathan Slinger, opens next week. Until then, we can cross our legs and take our minds off running water by enjoying this gallery.
