There are just six days until this year’s Olivier Awards with MasterCard, when a star-studded line-up of theatre’s great and good will gather to find out who has triumphed in some of the most hotly contested categories ever. There’s one accolade, however, that will possibly be judged more by the number of newspaper inches and magazine spreads collected than by the number of all-important bronze statuettes received: this year’s best dressed guest.
With the Olivier Awards red carpet now almost as anticipated as the ceremony itself, paparazzi, press, television stations and, most importantly, theatre fans, will gather from 17:00 next Sunday to catch a glimpse of nominees including Hollywood actors Hayley Atwell, Lesley Manville and Judi Dench, and glamorous musical theatre stars Zrinka Cvitešić and Katherine Kingsley in their finest.
To mark the final week countdown to this year’s glittering ceremony, we took a look through the archives at some of the most stunning dresses to grace the red carpet. From Zoe Wanamaker’s show-stopping red sequinned gown to former host Sheridan Smith’s classic but dramatic black tulle-skirted number, we were spoilt for choice.
