Jasper Rees’ hit show I Found My Horn will return to London to play a season at the Trafalgar Studios this spring with co-writer Jonathan Guy Lewis reprising his role in the one-man play.
Also returning to direct the new production of the mid-life crisis memoir is the show’s original director Harry Burton. I Found My Horn will play in the Trafalgar Studios’ intimate Studio 2 space from 1 April (press night 2 April) to 3 May.
Adapted by the journalist from his book of the same name, the witty and life-affirming one-man piece made its London premiere at the Tristan Bates Theatre in 2008. Following critical acclaim the production transferred and played a successful run at the Hampstead Theatre where The Guardian described it as “a wryly funny, infinitely touching account of the joys and hazards of making music and confronting one’s private demons.”
Telling the story of a man who wakes up at 40 to a broken marriage, a beckoning bedsit and the realisation that he has done nothing to make himself memorable, I Found My Horn charts Jasper’s journey from despair to redemption through the fulfilment of an unusual challenge.
Discovering his old French horn, he sets himself an impossible task: to perform a Mozart concerto in front of a paying audience of horn fanatics.
London’s Burning star Lewis plays Jasper and everyone he encounters in the show described as a “vogue of musical discovery”, from his old school conductor to his estranged teenage son.
As well as boasting roles in West End plays including A Few Good Men and An Inspector Calls, Lewis is also a playwright, co-writing I Found My Horn for its stage adaptation and penning popular drama Our Boys, which was revived in the West End in 2012.
