Hackney hosts Russian Family

Family entertainment Russian-style comes to Hackney Empire on the week of 24-29 July as St Petersburg clown troupe Teatr Licedei presents Semianyki (The Family) at the North London venue.

The show, which visits Hackney following an appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, tells the story of a dysfunctional yet comic family which comprises a Vodka-swilling father constantly on the verge of departure, a pregnant but passion-loving mother and their four slightly evil offspring. This zany spectacle is a tribute to contemporary and traditional clowns, imprinted with a Russian sensibility.

Teatr Licedei was founded in 1968 in St Petersburg, Russia, by Slava Polunin, who is best know for creating clown spectacle Slava’s Snowshow, which has played Hackney Empire on no less than four occasions.
