Goldberg returns for Superior performances

First Published 8 September 2010, Last Updated 8 September 2010

Whoopi Goldberg, who was forced to curtail her run in musical Sister Act at the London Palladium due to family illness, will return to the show for five performances only in October.

The comedy actress, who starred in the original 1992 film Sister Act and co-produces this stage musical version, had signed up to take on the role of Mother Superior from 10 to 31 August. However, on 27 August Goldberg withdrew from the show to fly to America to be with her mother, who had suffered a stroke.

A statement issued by the show today, 8 September, confirms that Goldberg will rejoin the show from 22 to 25 October. Those who missed out seeing her in August are eligible for priority booking for the new dates by calling See Tickets on 0844 579 0094. The five performances will then go on general sale from this Friday, 10 September.

Sister Act, which ends its run at the London Palladium on 30 October, tells the story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier who witnesses a murder and is placed in protective custody in a convent. There, she sets about transforming the convent choir, but her exuberant ways do not go down well with the austere Mother Superior.
