Karen Gillan, best known as Amy Pond in popular sci-fi drama Doctor Who, will make her professional stage debut in Inadmissible Evidence at the Donmar Warehouse from 13 October.

Gillan joins Douglas Hodge in John Osborne’s 1964 play about middle-aged lawyer Bill Maitland, who struggles to avoid the harsh truths of his life. As those closest to him begin to draw away, he puts himself on trial to fight for his sanity.

Scottish actress Gillan has played Amy Pond, the companion of eleventh Doctor Matt Smith, since 2010. Her previous screen credits include The Kevin Bishop Show and The Well, while she will soon be seen playing 60s supermodel Jean Shrimpton in television film We’ll Take Manhattan for BBC4. In making her stage debut Gillan follows in the footsteps of her Doctor Who co-star Arthur Darvill, who is currently appearing in Doctor Faustus at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Also joining the cast of Inadmissible Evidence are Esther Hall, Amy Morgan, Daniel Ryan and Al Weaver.

The production, which opens to the press on 18 October, follows current production Luise Miller and Eugene O’Neill’s Anna Christie, starring Jude Law and Ruth Wilson, which plays from 4 August to 8 October.
