Get busy with Sooty and his friends in the West End

Published 10 November 2011

Get ready to shout Izzy Wizzy let’s get Busy! this Christmas as Sooty, Sweep and Soo arrive back in the West End after more than a decade with The Sooty Christmas Show.

Playing from 13 to 31 December at the Garrick theatre, the nation’s favourite magical bear will be joined by Richard Cadell who hosts the ITV children’s show featuring the trio of puppet friends.

The Sooty Christmas Show opens as Sooty, Sweep, Soo and Richard are getting ready for their Christmas party. Sooty is having a few problems rehearsing his magic show, while Sweep’s Christmas cake is a recipe for disaster and poor little Soo just can’t decide which dress to wear.

Luckily Uncle Norman drops by to lend a hand assisted by his amazing troupe of performing budgies and regular characters Harry the Robot and Butch the bull dog. Father Christmas himself will also be flying by to deliver a present for every child in the theatre to take home.

The original Sooty theatre show ran during the 1970s and 1980s and was last seen in the West End in 1998. On returning to London, Cadell said: “The Sooty theatre show was an institution during the 70s/80s and we are hoping that the children of those eras will bring their children along to enjoy the next instalment of Sooty in the West End.”

The Sooty Christmas Show will play in rep at the Garrick theatre alongside musical Chicago, which opened at the venue earlier this week with new leading lady America Ferrera.
