Grainger replaces John Hurt, who has withdrawn for medical reasons.

Gawn Grainger will play the role of Billy Rice in The Entertainer, following John Hurt’s announcement that he will be unable to perform, on the advice of his doctor. Grainger boasts an illustrious stage career, having made his West End debut at the age of twelve, before going on to work as part of Laurence Olivier’s inaugural season at the National Theatre, with subsequent credits at the Almeida, The Globe and the Donmar Warehouse.
The Entertainer, the final production in the Kenneth Branagh season at the Garrick Theatre, begins rehearsals this week. Written by John Osborne, the play evokes the seedy glamour of music halls in the post-war era.

The Entertainer runs from 30 August to 12 November at the Garrick Theatre. You can buy tickets through us here.

Romeo And Juliet, directed by Kenneth Branagh and Rob Ashford, runs at the Garrick Theatre until 30 August. You can buy tickets through us here.
