He’s experienced a remarkable rise through the world of ballet, on the way becoming the Royal Ballet’s youngest ever principal dancer at 19. And now, Sergei Polunin is leading a showcase at none other than The London Palladium, Polunin At The Palladium, which will also feature a raft of other stars.
And that line-up has today been revealed: on 28, 29 and 30 May, Programme 1 will be performed, featuring three pieces: Fraudulent Smile, starring Polunin, Johan Kobborg, Alexey Lyubimov, Dejan Kolarov, Liam Morris, Chloe Reveillon, Ionut-Andrei Dinita, Oscar Ward and Laurine Muccioli; Paradox, starring Lyubimov and Kolarov; and Sacré, Polunin’s solo piece.
Fraudulent Smile is choreographed by Ross Freddie Ray to music by KROKE, while Paradox and Sacré, choreographed by Yuka Oishi, will explore aspects of the life of famous dancer Vasla Nijinsky in the year of his 130th birthday.
On 31 May and 1 June, Programme 2 takes centre stage, as Polunin, Kobborg/Semyon Velichko, Lyubimov, Elena Ilinkyh and Djorjde Kalenic perform Rasputin, the world premiere of a work choreographed by Oishi which explores the life and influence of the self-proclaimed Russian mystic.
The show will also feature costumes designed by Ulyana Sergeenko, whose gowns have been worn by Madonna, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie and Rihanna, to name but a few. Another exciting chapter in the world of Polunin, who recently branched out into Hollywood when acting in Murder On The Orient Express and Red Sparrow, it’s certainly looking like a who’s-who in the dance world.
Polunin At The Palladium begins performances from 28 May, with tickets available through The London Palladium website.
