The transfer of Sheffield Theatres's production of Fiddler On The Roof has, once again, extended its originally limited run at the Savoy. The Henry Goodman-led show, which originally extended until 1 December, is now booking until 26 January 2008. In addition to this news, Fiddler fans have more cause for celebration, as a cast album, featuring Goodman and the rest of the London stars, is to be released on 21 August.

Fiddler On The Roof, which originally opened on Broadway in 1964 and went on to become an Oscar-winning film, is set in 1905 Russia on the brink of revolution. Tevye is an old-fashioned father and dairyman who is set in his ways and wants to see his daughters married in the traditional Jewish fashion. The daughters, however, are guided by their hearts and not their elders, and have ideas of their own.

The musical contains memorable numbers such as Tradition, Matchmaker and If I Were A Rich Man, the latter working its way into the public consciousness recently when it was used in the Gwen Stefani song Rich Girl.

Goodman, whose other credits include Guys And Dolls, Chicago, The Gondoliers and a notoriously brief time in the Broadway production of The Producers, is joined on stage and on the recording by a cast that includes Beverley Klein, Julie Legrand and Victor McGuire. The production is directed by Lindsey Posner. .
