Exclusive: Olivier Awards 2015 Best Costume Design sketches

First Published 8 April 2015, Last Updated 6 June 2018

Long flowing floral gowns, chic red cocktail dresses and sleek navy suits; no, these are not the glamorous garments you’ll see on this year’s Olivier Awards red carpet – though you’re sure to see your fair share there too – but the incredible outfits that have earned this year’s quartet of Best Costume Design nominees their coveted nods.

To celebrate the enviable design ability of this talented foursome, which is comprised of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical’s Alejo Vietti, Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies’ Christopher Oram, Memphis The Musical’s Paul Tazewell and City Of Angels’ Robert Jones, we’re offering you an exclusive look at some of their original sketches.

Take a look at our gallery above and see how the garments, which encompass everything from vintage pieces created for the Donmar Warehouse revival of Cy Coleman’s classic musical to the iconic outfits worn by pop bands The Drifters, were brought to life on the page before making it to the stage.

Don’t forget, you can see some of the dazzling costumes in all their glory at the Olivier Awards’ first ever pop-up space in Covent Garden. Pop into the store – you’ll find it next to Paperchase in the Piazza – and have your picture taken with a giant Olivier statuette, snap up limited edition merchandise and enjoy an incredible exhibition of photographs from past ceremonies.
