EduStage is to bring its summer schools back to South London this August, offering young people interested in musical theatre another chance to show off their skills.
Since 2006 EduStage has been running non-residential summer schools across the UK with the aim of teaching young people the skills involved in musical theatre performance.
This year the company is offering two week-long courses at the Secombe theatre, Sutton, during the August school holidays.
Each course offers participants the chance to work on an original musical. Throughout the week they will develop their acting, singing and dancing skills with the help of professional directors, leading to a final performance in full costume in front of family and friends.
The first summer school, for children aged 8 to 12 (held, appropriately, from 8 to 12 August), is based around the story of a fortune teller in a distant land, who seems to know the whereabouts of a lady’s stolen jewels.
The second (15-19 August) offers teenagers aged 13 to 17 the chance to act out One Of The Gang, a story about a gang member turned famous artist, inspired by last year’s summer school.
No experience is necessary. Places cost £135, including tickets for family and friends to attend the final performance.
