Christmas at the Drill Hall features Icelandic storytelling, a sing-along workshop and an alternative Christmas story told through song.
The centrepiece of the Drill Hall’s programming is The Yule Lads – Tales Of Icelandic Christmas, a show for 7 to 11 year olds which tells a traditional story that has been frightening Icelandic children for centuries.
Using magic, music and puppets, the show tells of Greela the giant troll, who sets off in search of naughty children to eat. But Greela isn’t the only troll to watch out for; she has 13 offspring who are just as mischievous.
Two additional musical events are included in the festive programming at the Drill Hall this year, both held on Sunday 13 December.
The Christmas Sing-along Workshop is a seasonal workshop for any children over the age of four who enjoy making noise. A session of seasonal singing with singer/songwriter Robb Johnson is followed by an informal concert for friends and family.
The second event, The Ghost Of Love, is a bleakly humorous, ironic commentary on the festive season, its myths, rituals and realities. It features 12 songs that tell the story of Mary, an unmarried mother of God (possibly) from Feltham (definitely) and her relationship with Gary, carpenter and Brentford fan, and their two children, Jay and Jimmy, through the various Christmases they share as their children grow up from 1991 to 2009.
