Drew McOnie piece returns to National Youth Ballet

A ballet choreographed by Olivier Award winner and NYB alumnus Drew McOnie will feature in the company’s 2016 showcase at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley, West Sussex. The Old Man of Lochnagar, based on the book by HRH Prince of Wales, was originally commissioned in 2012 by NYB’s late founder, Jill Tookey, and forms part of a season celebrating her legacy and NYB’s 29th anniversary.

The 2016 Season also includes a Memorial Gala Performance at Sadler’s Wells, which will feature newly commissioned works and performances from notable NYB alumni.

The National Youth Ballet works with talented young dancers between the ages of eight and 18, providing training and professional performance opportunities. Many students go on to lead successful careers in the industry, with alumni including choreographer Drew McOnie (Bugsy Malone, Jekyll And Hyde, In The Heights), actress Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey, The Riot Club) and principal dancer Sir Gregory Dean (Royal Danish Ballet).

The Heights is running at Kings Cross Theatre until 10 October. You can book tickets through OLT here. Bugsy Malone returns to the Lyric Hammersmith on 11 June. You can book tickets on the website here.
