First Published 5 October 2016, Last Updated 5 October 2016

The full company of the long-awaited UK premiere production of musical Dreamgirls has assembled for the first time, ahead of their first preview on 19 November.

With just six weeks until preview performances begin at the Savoy Theatre, rehearsals began on Monday 3 October with the full cast in attendance, and from the look of these first photos, they’re clearly as excited as we are for the occasion.

American actress and singer Amber Riley will star as Effie White, leading soulful singing trio ‘The Dreams’, who also comprise of Liisi LaFontaine as Deena Jones and Ibinabo Jack as Lorrell Robinson. On the cusp of a revolutionary time in American music history, their tumultuous journey as a young group from Chicago to astronomical stardom teaches them that show business can be as tough as it is fabulous.

Directed and choreographed by the Olivier and Tony Award-winning Casey Nicholaw (The Book Of Mormon), Dreamgirls features the classic songs “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”, “I Am Changing”, “Listen” and “One Night Only.” Originally opening on Broadway in 1981,winning six Tony Awards, it has since been adapted into a Academy Award-winning film starring Beyoncé Knowles, and finally comes to the West End this winter.

Take a look at the rehearsal snaps above, feel suitably excited, and book your tickets to what promises to be a sensational show through us here.
