Complicite’s Laurence Olivier Award-winning play A Disappearing Number is to play a strictly limited season at London’s Novello theatre from 10 to 25 September.

The production’s original cast – David Annen, Firdous Bamji, Paul Bhattacharjee, Hiren Chate, Divya Kasturi, Chetna Pandya, Saskia Reeves and Shane Shambhu – which first performed the show in 2007, will be reunited for this new London staging.

A Disappearing Number takes as its starting point one of the most mysterious and romantic collaborations of all time. In London, a man attempts to unravel the secrets of his lover. In Bangalore, a woman collapses on a train. In 1914, Englishman GH Hardy, Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, seeks to comprehend the ideas of the Indian prodigy, Srinivasa Ramanujan.

In addition to the 2008 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play, A Disappearing Number, which was last seen at the Barbican in 2008, collected both the 2007 Evening Standard Award for Best Play and the 2007 Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play.

Theatregoers unable to purchase tickets for one of A Disappearing Number’s 19 London performances will also have the chance to see the much-lauded show at selected cinemas when it is screened on 14 October to launch the National Theatre’s second season of NT Live.

A Disappearing Number is not the only Complicite offering in London this autumn. From 4 to 13 November, the world renowned company will return to its regular London stomping ground, the Barbican, with a revival of last season’s hit Shun-Kin, while from 20 November to 4 December, Complicite’s Artistic Director Simon McBurney will direct Raskatov’s A Dog’s Heart for English National Opera.
