Les Dennis has been confirmed in the cast of the new touring production of High School Musical 2 Live On Stage, which kicks off at London’s New Wimbledon theatre on 22 August.
Dennis plays Mr Fulton in this stage version of the hit Disney film, the sequel to last year’s stage production of the first film, which toured the UK and enjoyed a summer season at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Comedian and television entertainer Dennis rose to fame on the comedy circuit before making his name in television comedy and variety shows including Madhouse, The Russ Abbot Show and The Les Dennis Laughter Show. Following recent appearances on Celebrity Big Brother and Ricky Gervais’s Extras, he took to the stage last year in Eurovision parody musical Eurobeat at the Novello theatre.
Dennis is joined in High School Musical 2 Live On Stage by Liam Doyle, who won the lead role of Troy Bolton through GMTV’s Search For Troy competition earlier this year. Finalists Ian McIntosh and James Lacey join him in the cast, along with Nikki Mae (Gabriella), Matt Kennedy (Ryan) and Laura Hall (Sharpay).
High School Musical 2 Live On Stage follows the East High Wildcats during their summer break. Troy, Gabriella, Taylor and Chad all land work at an exclusive country club, but it is not going to be an easy ride. Scheming siblings Ryan and Sharpay are taking their holiday there too and plan to have some fun of their own, stirring things up for the school friends.
The stage show, created by the same team as the first production, features all the songs from the popular 2007 film including What Time Is It?, You Are The Music In Me and Fabulous.
High School Musical 2 Live On Stage plays at the New Wimbledon theatre from 22 August to 5 September (press night 26 August) before embarking on a UK tour.
