Star of classic films Singin’ In The Rain, The Unsinkable Molly Brown and That’s Entertainment, Debbie Reynolds will bring her one-woman show Debbie Reynolds Alive And Fabulous to London’s Apollo theatre in 2010.
Performing 10 dates only between 28 April and 9 May, the MGM star, who boasts Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, will use old movie clips as she reminisces about her life, her many husbands and her incredible career in the golden age of song and dance.
Discovered as a fresh faced 16-year-old, Reynolds rose to fame playing perky, wholesome young women in MGM musicals and is one of the few actresses to have danced with both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. More recently she has regularly appeared in popular American sitcom Will And Grace.
Describing the show, which will play a 15-date tour before its West End engagement, Reynolds said: “It’s a variety show. I get to do impressions of Barbra Streisand, Mae West, Katherine Hepburn – even Jimmy Stewart.”
Debbie Reynolds Alive And Fabulous fills a gap in the Apollo theatre’s schedule between the transfer of the hugely-popular Mark Rylance-led Royal Court production of Jerusalem and a new production of Arthur Miller’s drama All My Sons, which stars Zoe Wanamaker and David Suchet.
